Though the monsoon is a relief from the summer heat, it also brings with it a multitude of health problems. It is a time when one should take care of one`s health else it would lead to serious health problems. The high humidity levels also increase the risk of fungal infections. When water gets collected it results in the growth of mosquitoes, which cause malaria and dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

One of the famous dermatologist of Fortis Hospital, Noida, says, "One should wear cotton clothes and loose clothes and use talcum powder that are anti-fungal in areas more prone to fungal infections." Humidity and dampness results in fungal infections. Dampness can lead to skin problems and athlete`s foot. So, take bath at least twice a day to keep the infections at bay.

Monsoon also brings in hair care problems like stickiness and dandruff, which leads to hair falling. Here are some tips to protect your hair. Wash your hair regularly and when you use shampoo, take care that you use a mild one. After every wash use conditioner.

"Health Tips" Monsoon_314Take care that you eat a balanced and protein rich diet. Snacks like warm samosas and chaat become irresistible during rainy season but never have contaminated food. It will lead to diseases like diarrhea, hepatitis A, etc. So, get yourself vaccinated against such diseases. Fever is a serious health problem during the monsoon season and do not ignore it, if it lasts for more than two days. Remember prevention is better than cure.

  1. Clean your teeth after eating by toothbrush and dental floss. Use a correct toothbrush, and brush and floss correctly.
  2. Visit the dentist regularly. Periodontal disease of gums is common in adults and in older people. The dentist can remove plaque from teeth, reducing the number of bacteria - a key to helping prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
  3. If you experience the following, then you have chances of a periodontal disease:
    Gums bleeding during brushing
    Red and/or swollen gums
Gums that have pulled away from the teeth, Pus between the teeth and gums
    Bad breath
    Loose teeth.
  4. Don't ignore gums that bleed when you brush or floss or changes in the way your teeth fit together when you bite.
  5. Ask your dentist about cosmetic options for improving the appearance of teeth that are stained or chipped.
  6. Don't use tobacco products; they can increase your risk of gum disease and cancer of the mouth and throat.
  7. Don't chew on hard objects that could crack a tooth.
  8. Wear a mouth guard when playing active sports.
  9. Eat a balanced diet for good overall health, selecting a variety of foods from the five main food groups (bread, cereals, and other grain products; fruits; vegetables"Health Tips" Mag-glass_10x10; meat, poultry, fish and alternatives; milk, cheese, and yogurt), and limit snacks.
  10. Eating sweetened cereals dry is bad for teeth, always add milk.
  11. Drinking frequent cups of tea or coffee with sugar added will increase the risk of teeth decay.
  12. When less saliva is available on very hot days, one should not consume foods containing sugars that stick in the teeth.
  13. Chewable vitamin C tablets with or without sugar are acidic and are a hazard for not only children's teeth but also to adult's teeth. Do not use lemon juice for whitening because vitamin C will cause the teeth to lose calcium damaging teeth quicker than anything else.

Tips for healthy eyes

hope these tips r helpful 4 u ppl!!
"Health Tips" Eye-health-tips

  1. Have your eyes tested regularly.
  2. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. Broccoli, spinach, sweetcorn, orange and yellow peppers, kiwi fruits, oranges and mangoes are all great sources of the substances lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help protect against some eye conditions. If your busy lifestyle means your diet isn't always as healthy as you'd like it to be, ask about eye-health supplements next time you visit your eye specialist!
  3. Protect your eyes from the sun. Over-exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause a number of problems, including cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. In sunny weather, always wear sunglasses or tinted lenses that carry the UV400 mark.
  4. Stop smoking. Smokers are up to three times more likely to develop cataracts than non-smokers - another good reason to quit.
  5. Take short, frequent breaks from the computer to prevent eyestrain and tiredness. Even if you don't get up, an 'eye break' - when you look away from the screen and focus on objects at varying distances will help.
  6. If you play a lot of sport, buy protective sports goggles to shield your eyes. This is especially important if you're keen on racquet sports; squash is the main cause of serious eye injuries.
  7. injuries caused by caused by DIY at home are common. Always wear safety goggles that carry the BS EN 166 safety mark to avoid injuries caused by flying wood chips or metal shards. If your job requires you to wear protective eyewear!
  8. If you get dust or grit in your eye, don't rub it. Pull the upper eyelid down over the lower lid and blink frequently to help the lower lashes and tears sweep and wash away the foreign object.
  9. If you wear contact lenses, regular aftercare check-ups are vital to ensure your lenses remain comfortable and your eyes stay healthy. At D&A, our Contact Lenses By Post service includes unlimited aftercare.
  10. If you notice any changes in your vision, pain in or around your eyes or if you keep getting headaches, book an appointment to see an Optometrist !!
